Many of us were conditioned to believe that our emotions are low on the scale of daily importance. We were trained to button our lips, be polite, stay attentive, show obedience, and cause little disruption. To those others might have been added. Shush. Quiet your anger. Stop crying. Be quiet. Watch this. Eat that. Someone forgot to help you with lunch? You were sent to school sick? You’ll be fine.
Even though these commands and scenarios happened years ago, these stuffed emotions can linger in the body and surface later, often in the form of doubt, frustration, and resentment. You might opt to figure out your own car troubles instead of calling a friend or grin and bear a scolding from a boss or partner instead of speaking up. It has happened to so many of us!
Your body is designed to move emotions beautifully through it with a symphony of tears, chills, pressures, and burst out loud laughter. They are energy, and their movement fuels personal growth and expansion as well as ideas and direction! To feel each moment, sticky and beautiful, is to be led to our next life step. Denying our feelings can be somewhere like shutting down our car’s navigation system or sticking a banana in the exhaust pipe.
Be courageous and step fully into your feelings today. Feel them completely, let them move through you, and sense what they have to share with you!
